Why a combined form?

The purpose is to ensure that no necessary assessments are overlooked while at the same time simplifying the process for you as a researcher.
You will be guided through both areas using dynamic yes/no questions. Your answers determine which sections of the form are opened or skipped, meaning that you only need to complete the sections that are relevant to your research activity.

Please note: the combined form does not change the case-handling process.

Research ethics matters continue to be handled by the Research Ethics Committee, while data protection (GDPR) matters continue to be handled by the AAU Grants and Contracts unit.

Once you have completed and submitted the form, the relevant units at AAU will take over:

The GDPR Team in the AAU Grants and Contracts Unit  will register your research activity in AAU’s record of processing activities. You will receive an acknowledgement from the case officer once the registration has been completed. The case officer will contact you if any follow-up questions arise or if it is assessed that guidance may be needed.

AAU’s Research Ethics Committee will process your application (typically aiming to provide a response/decision within approximately one month if no issues arise), and the security function will review the URIS responses (if you have indicated any relevant items there).

Please note: Although the form has been submitted, the research activity may only commence once an ethical approval has been granted, if the research activity is subject to the requirement for ethical approval.
